A 26 year old man in the US state of Michigan is facing the prospect of spending up to 10 years in prison after he left the scene of horrific car accident with his one year son left inside the seriously damaged car.
According to MLive.com the man at the centre of the investigation Cody Robert Hershey, 26, left his baby boy in the mangled vehicle after he crashed it in Muskegon on July 26th.
Mr Hershey who is facing child abuse charges, apparently crashed the car whilst intoxicated and then fled the scene of the accident before police arrived.
It is understood that the accused was the subject of a police investigation at the time of the incident after the child’s mother reported her baby missing at around 2am on July 26th.
However police reports say that when officers tracked down Mr Hershey four hours later he was not with the child, but instead an officer discovered the baby awake and unharmed inside the locked car.
Herhsey is currently facuing charges of operating while intoxicated with an occupant less than 16 and charges of child neglect.
