It is believed that the driver did not deliberately run over the victim and police are now investigating whether to press charges.
A cyclist who was hit by the same car multiple times died from his injuries, according to US police. Warren Yoshio Watanabe, 62, was riding a bicycle in Roy, Utah when he was hit by a vehicle leaving a parking lot.
The car backed up, stopped before moving forward and hitting him again, according to the Utah KSL news site.
The 77-year-old driver repeated the manoeuvre, crushing him to death, according to an affidavit issued by a search warrant.
The woman hit him a third time while the car was on top of the victim. Only then did she see Mr. Watanabe on the ground and called an ambulance, local media reported.
In the end, he suffered 14 broken ribs, kidney and liver damage, and was unable to breathe on his own according to the court order. The incident occurred on September 20 and was recorded by a local restaurant with video surveillance. Mr. Watanabe died five days later.
The driver is believed not to intentionally knock him down, KSL reported, but she knew she had hit something and kept trying it.
Police are now deciding with attorneys if any charges will be brought.
