In one of the most bizarre Big Brother episode’s of all time, viewers of the Channel 5 reality TV show were both laughing and complaining at the same time.
David Bowie’s untimely death was told to current housemate and his ex-wife, Angie Bowie in the Diary Room. The American took it quite badly and started to cry but was comforted by David Gest and John Partridge.
What happened next was quite surreal.
Angie decided to not tell the rest of the housemates about David Bowie’s death, but reality TV star Tiffany managed to get Angie to divulge.
Angie reluctantly just said “David is dead” – resulting in Tiffany going beserk thinking that it was current housemate David Gest who had died.
She ran out screaming to the garden and told all the housemates which resulted in all of them doing the same. They ran to the bedroom where David Gest ironically was covered by a duvet in his bed and started to grab his wrist searching for his pulse.
Only then did it transpire that Angie meant her ex-husband David Bowie.
Backlash was felt to the producers of the show where one viewer on social media said “the episode was highly disrespectful to the legendary David Bowie”.
Another claimed John Partridge was “a snake and someone who tried to turn the whole house on Tiffany for an innocent mistake and is a complete and utter bully”.
Channel 5 have allegedly received over 200 complaints for this episode alone.
