David Letterman retires from US TV after a record-breaking career

The famous talk show host David Letterman will finally say goodbye to TV audiences tonight, after hosting a record-breaking 6,082 shows since his debut on late night TV back in February 1982.

Letterman’s enduring career has surpassed his mentor Johnny Carson’s, who hosted a total of 4,531 during his stint on TV.

In total, David Letterman’s late night TV shows have remained on air for 33 years and two months.
