The deadly spiral of violence continues this evening, as a woman has been hacked to death in the streets of Germany by a man armed with a machete.
The incident, which was recorded on a mobile phone by a witness, happened in the city of Reutlingen, near Stuttgart.
The man, later identified as a 21-year-old Syrian who recently arrived in Germany as an asylum seeker, stabbed a pregnant woman to death outside a kebab shop, then lunged at passers-by, injuring two people. He was stopped when a driver ploughed into him with his car.
It is understood that both the attacker and the deceased knew each other, and had worked in the same place.
The incident is not thought to be terror-related, rather it appears to be an isolated “crime of passion.”
Germany, and Europe at large, remain in a heightened state of alert due to a spate of large-scale attacks in recent times.
