The number of people on trolleys has reduced again, with a total of 363 patients waiting for treatment around the country.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has stated that 264 people are currently on trolleys outside wards. This figure was 491 last week

Despite this, nurses at the Emergency Department in Galway University Hospital have overwhelmingly voted in favor of industrial action, due to ‘unsafe’ levels of overcrowding in their work environment.

A work-to-rule action will begin there on February 3.

It follows a similar vote at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital last week, and other facilities around the country are expected to hold similar ballots in the coming days.
