
The statement said that “no member” of the board “other than” then-director general Dee Forbes had “all the necessary information” to know that Ryan Tubridy’s publicly reported earnings were incorrect.
Acting Deputy Director General Adrian Lynch detailed the situation in a detailed nine-page statement six days after the controversy over RTÉ payments began.
In a section of the statement titled “Responsibility”, Mr Lynch said “there has been much speculation regarding the awareness or involvement of members of senior RTÉ management and others in these arrangements”, reports RTE.
Sixteen current and former RTÉ executives have been invited to attend this week’s meeting of the public finance committee investigating the channel’s payments controversy.
The committee wants to interview former CEO Dee Forbes, former CEO Noel Curran, interim CEO Adrian Lynch and new CEO Kevin Bakhurst, reports RTE.
Ms Forbes is not expected to be present as she has told the media committee that she is too ill.
The current CEO Siún Nà Raghallaigh was invited, as well as the former president Moya Doherty.
A spokeswoman for the Media Secretary, Catherine Martin, said that when the RTÉ issue was first brought to her attention in March, she had no idea of ​​the importance or scale of the problem, reports RTE.
At the time, all she knew was that an external audit of a financial matter was taking place.
