Denis O’Brien’s fuel empire has just grown a lot bigger today. The 57-yr-old multi-billionaire’s Topaz company made a massive purchase today after buying competitor, Esso.
The Cork-native has been under the public spotlight for the past year when it emerged he was involved with the disastrous Irish Water company.
The takeover was approved today by Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).
The exact figure of the deal is not known publicly, but it is believed to be in the region of €75 million.
According to Topaz the deal will see the company employ upwards of 2,000 people across Ireland with service stations under their banner to be seen in all 32 counties on the island, similar to that of the current Topaz setup.
Its turnover is expected to be roughly in excess of €3.5 billion.
