The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has said the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is due to increased number of positive tests collected over the past three days.
In a statement Dr Glynn said despite the surge in cases, the seven day moving average is still lower than last week with 8,845 cases reported this week compared to 9,115 last week.
Glynn went on to say the moving average now stands at 1,264 compared to 1,302.
