Dermatologists warn of the dangers of constant UV exposure as skin cancer cases are rapidly rising in Ireland

There is growing concerns amongst those in the medical profession as latest figures have shown that skin cancer cases here are rapidly rising.

According to the National Cancer Registry there were a reported 1,000 cases of the illness in 2014 with the number continuing to rise.

Although the illness can be treated if it is caught early it can however prove to be fatal if it’s left untreated.

Dermatologists say although many Irish people tan it is believed that our fair skin and hair can be a leading factor in the cause of the illness.

They also say many Irish people are unaware of the condition given that we are not considered to be a nation that experiences large amounts of sunshine, therefore they attribute such skin blemishes as freckles or warts even though they could be cancerous.

The latest figures has led to many dermatologists to call on the Irish public to take the appropriate measures whilst being out in the sun order to prevent developing the illness.
