A woman from Dublin with crohns disease contacted TheLiberal.ie during the week to explain what happened when she asked her local TD about water charges.

Crohns disease and Colitis are conditions known as Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). It makes the sufferer use the toilet up to 20 times a day with diarrhoea when they get a flare up. This means their water usage will be a minimum of 20 times more than the average user.

The woman named Janet, said she made an appointment at her government representative’s office and was told that she would receive “no special treatment” just because she has this debilitating disease.

The woman left the TD’s office in tears and is said to be considering a campaign for all 20,000 crohns and colitis sufferers to get a minimum of a major reduction, if not free water altogether.
