Gardai have launched an investigation following an incident yesterday evening in which a man in his 70s was tied up and his home was ransacked.
The elderly man is believed to live alone in the Ballinamona, Old Parish area of west Waterford.
Gardai say four masked men entered the man’s house at around 7pm, tied him up and locked him in his bedroom. The men apparently escaped with a large amount of cash.
Gardaí have said that the elderly man was badly shaken by the horrific incident.
