50,000 County Mayo residents still have contaminated water this morning and have been in told they must boil their water or run the risk of contracting a gasto-intestinal illness including diarrhoea and a vomiting bug among others.
Several water samples detected the presence of the cryptosporidium parasite in the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme.
rish Water and Mayo County Council issued the notice to protect consumers following advice from the Health Service Executive.
The areas covered include the towns of Castlebar, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe and Ballyhaunis, and areas surrounding them – as well as rural group water schemes connected to the Lough Mask supply, but it is advised all residents of the Western county do not drink water for the time being.
