In what can only be described as not one, but two disgraceful events over the weekend, cyclists, hikers and walkers are advised to be extra vigilant after separate “barbed wire attacks” took place in and around Dublin.
Images sent to Dublin’s 98FM have conjured up concern for anyone out and about on walks, bike rides or mountain hikes.
The images show two separate barbed wire attacks where both horse riding and cyclists were badly caught and entangled in purposely high-lying barbed wire to catch out the victims. Thankfully, no animal was injured in the attacks, but as the images show – this cyclist was lucky not to lose an eye by the attack.
Liam Byrne, a hiker in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains area says:
“This type of attack is ferociously dangerous to anyone out and about now that the weather is picking up. It’s potentially life threatening, and anyone with any information should report it to the gardai.”
“I urge people to share these images to raise awareness for the matter and to try and stamp it out”, he concluded.
