Gardaí have revealed that officers have been spit or coughed at 52 times over the last month.
According to figures published by An Garda síochána 52 incidents of spitting or coughing occurred from April 8th to May 2nd.
Gardai say there were 139 cases were officers were required to use new covid-19 measures.
They also say officers were forced to use spit guards 28 times over the past month.
Although Gardai have said there has been a high rate of compliance from the public since new measures were introduced, unfortunately there has been incidents were officers were deliberately targeted by members of the public.
They added that most of the reported incidents are already been before the courts.
