Air fryers are a contemporary kitchen appliance that uses hot air to cook food. It’s similar to deep frying, but much less oil is used, making it a healthier option, reports The Mirror.

This clever gadget employs a mechanical fan to distribute the heat evenly, crisping the surface of your food without overcooking the middle.

Recently, air fryers have been flying off the market due to their ease of use in facilitating healthy cooking. Air fryers provide lower-fat substitutes for our typical fried favourites and contribute to calorie reduction by using little to no oil.

In addition to being easier, quicker, and less complicated than conventional deep-frying or oven roasting, there has been considerable debate over their safety, reports The Mirror.

Social media users have started spreading rumours about potentially harmful compounds found in air fryers. According to the Daily Record, some gamblers have even gone so far as to say they’re “DNA altering,” but there doesn’t appear to be any proof of this.

On TikTok, a doctor has corrected the record, stating that you need only be concerned if your air fryer is broken. According to Dr Karan Raj, the “main cause for concern is the non-stick materials, which are also referred to as ‘forever chemicals’.”

He revealed: “Well, fun fact, every time you sit down to eat, microplastics float from the air and land in your food, or are already part of your food, invisibly becoming part of your stir fry,” reports The Mirror.

“Now when it comes to air fryers, the worries about toxic chemicals leeching into your food is only really an issue if the material is damaged, so as long as you don’t plan to eat the lining of your air fryer, you’ll be fine. Just try to minimise how much damage and scratching there is to the non-stick coating”, reports The Mirror.
