Doctor takes High Court challenge to free GP care scheme for children under six

gp

A GP practicing in Shannon, Co. Clare, has entered a High Court challenge over the introduction of free care for children under the age of six. She claims that such scheme would place her in an “impossible” position, and may jeopardise her practice altogether.

She claims that if she signs up to the scheme, it may lead to a dramatic rise in the frequency of visits by children under six, which she says her practice might not be able to accommodate.

She added that it would be “unethical” to enter into a scheme which may compromise patient care.
