Dogs Trust Ireland say that some 2,000 requests from members of the public to rehome dogs this year, an increase of 20% from 2020.
They say that the main thing is people aren’t putting the time in to train their dog along with people unknowingly buying dogs from puppy farms.
People are asked to think twice about buying a puppy for Christmas and that they should consider sponsoring a dog as a present instead.
