The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that at least two out five adults has received the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccine.
Speaking to RTE, the health minister confirmed that the roll-out is gathering pace and that there were over 260,000 doses administered last week.
Donnelly told RTE to date more than 2.1m doses have been given across the country and this equates to 40% of the population.
He added that the vaccination programme will continue to administer doses to those aged between 50 and 69 this week.
