The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has said that he does not support the idea of Ireland re-joining the Commonwealth.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Today with Sean O’Rourke programme, the Minister for Finance said that he personally doesn’t support the idea that was mooted by the DUP’s Jeffery Donaldson over the weekend.
Although Mr Donohoe agreed that future of Irish and British relations would have to be debated in the future, he said that the Irish Government has measures in place to continue to do so in the event of a no deal Brexit.
Mr Donohoe who said that he remains hopeful of an orderly Brexit, also told the programme that the Irish economy will continue to grow in the event of a no deal.
However he did reiterate that such a scenario would be damaging as it would result in a slower growth as a potential 50,000 jobs would be lost by 2023.
