The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has once again blasted the countries banks in wake of the recent tracker mortgage scandal that has affected thousands of mortgage holders nationwide.
Mr Donohoe who issued a statement earlier today clarifying the Government’s position in relation to the scandal, said the situation should never have occurred in the first place.
The Finance Minister who is keen to address the situation as quickly as possible also labelled the bank’s actions as disgraceful and urged them to own up to their mistakes.
Addressing the public about the issue Mr Donohoe said the banks deliberately took advantage of thousands of vulnerable customers who not only stood by them but supported them during the financial crisis which affected the country for a number of years.
Mr Donohoe also revealed that the Government is fully invested in rectifying the situation and they are working closely with The Central Bank in order to uncover any wrong doings by the country’s biggest financial institutions.
He added that they are also working on devising a number of steps so that such scenario will never ever affect the Irish people again.
