The Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath said that the government wanted people to get back to work as soon as possible, but for now it was about keeping the progress made in the fight against covid.
McGrath said that it was too early to say whether the 2 metre social distancing rule could be reconsidered based on a return to work but that it’s unlikely to be relaxed in the immediate future.
It’s understood that the rule will be considered later in the summer.
McGrath said the government will try to protect tenants affected by Covid-19 from rent increases and evictions by next January.
