Dr. Anthony Fauci has predicted that the United States could gain herd immunity to Covid-19 by “the end of the second quarter 2021” now that vaccines are going mainstream.
Speaking to Hallie Jackson of MSNBC, Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that Covid-19 vaccines should be available to most Americans in the spring, based on deployment efficiency.
Depending on whether enough people can be persuaded to get vaccinated, normal, healthy men and women who do not have any underlying disease may get the vaccine in late March or early April.
Fauci said he expects the United States to achieve herd immunity in late spring or early summer.
“By the time we get to the fall, we can start approaching some degree of relief where the level of infection will be so low in society we can start essentially approaching some form of normality,” he said.
