The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that he supports the idea of wearing face masks whilst outdoors.
Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said that the suggestion which was previously mooted by the Taoiseach Micheal Martin was a good idea.
Although no official decision has been made to make the wearing face masks in outdoor public settings mandatory Dr Holohan said it was good advice.
Meanwhile the Chief Medical Officer said that in terms of case percentage Ireland is heading to be one of the worst in Europe.
Dr Holohan said it is expected that a significant number of people will sadly lose their lives in the coming days and weeks ahead given the recent transmission.
However he did state that the country wasn’t in a position where the situation couldn’t be turned around.
Adding we all must focus on what we have to do as individuals.
