Dr Tony Holohan said that things will be a lot clearer by the end of the week in relation to the lockdown measures that are imposed on the Irish public.
Dr Holohan said:
“By the end of next week we could see 10% growth on daily confirmed cases. Although we’ve made significant progress on flattening the curve, we’ll flatten it further into the future , suppress the peak further and ensure that it doesn’t grow and present a challenge for us in relation to managing the health system.”
He went on to say:
“It’s difficult for us to say for certainty but we won’t be surprised if we have to ask the public to work with us again after April 12th. We need to continue to see the benefit of the measures we have put in place.
We’ll know fully towards by the end of next week what the position is, in other words, the day in day increase, and the other measures that we track in the population. We’ll know if we’ve turned the corner and we’ll be able to make a better assessment.”
