Dr Holohan: We’ve flattened the curve, we don’t think there’s going to be a peak

The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that the Covid-19 curve has been flattened and that there is no peak expected in Ireland.

Dr Holohan says that this is as a result of all the hard work that the Irish public carried out over the past number of weeks.

Dr Tony said on the Late Late Show: “What was really important for us to do…was suppress the virus in the community.

“We think we’ve flattened that curve so much that there is no peak, that we think we can go along at a low level and reduce it even further.

“That’s the impact that we’ve had from all of the work that everybody across society has done.”

He is “hopeful about the 5th of May” and says Ireland is “going after the virus.”

Dr Holohan said that he is optimistic about the restriction extension date of May 5th still going ahead to lift some lockdown restrictions.
