Dr Ronan Glynn says he doesn’t envisage widespread lockdowns

The acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has said that he doesn’t envisage widespread restrictions across Ireland but warned the public to follow current guidelines.

Speaking at the NPHET briefing, Dr Glynn said that there are currently no plans to impose further restrictions and he hopes that there will be no need to in the future.

Glynn who called on the public to follow social distancing measures, said the restrictions imposed in counties Laois, Offaly and Kildare were introduced to help protect the public and stem the spread of the virus.

Although Dr Glynn didn’t rule out the possibility of introducing further restrictions on other counties, he did state that the public must continue with current guidelines in order to keep the virus under control.
