Dr Tony Holohan alludes to possible lockdown extension as current ICU numbers remain too high to remove restrictions

The end of the lockdown restrictions may go well past May 5th, according to predictions on current coronavirus numbers in Ireland.

Dr Tony Holohan announced that current confirmed cases of coronavirus and ICU admissions remain too high to justify easing the lockdown.

Holohan confirmed today that there’s been 18 more deaths from covid-19 with another 386 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 19,658.

He said based on what he saw last week, he couldn’t advise risking lifting the lockdown and said that numbers still remain too high.

The chief medical officer did say however that there were seven days left before he needs to tell the government what to do and that there’s still a chance lockdown could be lifted on May 5th.
