Dr Tony Holohan says there’s no need to implement a full lockdown at this time

There may be 893 confirmed cases of coronavirus on the island of Ireland, but it appears as though it’s still not time to have a complete lockdown, according to health experts.

The Chief Medical officer Tony Holohan has said that it’s too early for Ireland to go into lockdown.

Dr Holohan said that although the virus has to be taken seriously, there is currently no need to introduce further restrictions such as curfews at this time.

The top medic┬áalso said that we won’t see the impact of social distancing until next week, but it is crucial that everyone sticks to specific guidelines set out by the Government.

He added that public health officials are treating the virus more like a marathon more than a sprint.
