Drogheda set for potential jobs boost as Amazon granted planning permission for Data Centre

The town of Drogheda could be given a potential jobs boost in the near future as it has been revealed that Amazon have been granted conditional planning permission to build a new data centre on the outskirts of the town.

The new data centre which will be built on a 19.4 hectare site is expected to create 400 jobs during its construction phase and a further 50 jobs once operational.

Proposals submitted by the submitted by the Web giant, the new 28,573sq metre data centre will be built on an IDA site which is located on the Donore Road.

It is believed that the two story building will be bigger than 25 metres.

The plans for the site which will have scope for future expansion, also show that the company plan on installing 26 emergency generators, an electricity substation, water storage tanks and changes to the site entrance.

It is hoped that the new data centre will be operational by 2023 with the first phase of construction to get underway later this year.
