Dublin City Centre have been asked to fly a Palestinian flag in support of people of Gaza

Many councillors are calling on Dublin City Council to fly the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the people of Gaza against Israel’s actions, reports Breaking News.

The Council on Independents group has made an urgent motion to fly the flag over City Hall and it will be heard at Monday’s monthly meeting.

Sinn Féin, the Social Democrats, People Before Profit and several independent councilors supported the motion, which stated that due to the continuing “indiscriminate slaughter” in Gaza, the council said that “Palestinian flag above City Hall for a week as a sign of solidarity”.

The United Nations and World Health Organization are among human rights organizations that have criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza since the October 7 surprise attack on Palestinians as part of an offensive against Israel.

The group said the council’s support for Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian invasion set a “precedent”.

The motion continues: “The support for the Ukrainian people shown by Dublin City Council in the aftermath of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine has set a precedent, reports Breaking News.

“The indiscriminate targeting of people in Gaza, similar to the indiscriminate targeting of the Ukrainian people, warrants an equivalent public display of opposition to the murder of Palestinian civilians,” reports Breaking News.
