Dublin Fire Brigade to vote on possible strike action after city council refused to provide much needed ambulances

SIPTU members in Dublin Fire Brigade have confirmed that they will hold a ballot within the next fortnight to decide whether or not they will enforce strike action.

The news of possible industrial comes in the wake of a dispute with senior management of Dublin City Council, after they refused to provide four much needed ambulances to cope with growing demands.

A spokesman for Dublin Fire Brigade said: “The ballot is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.”

The also said any possible action is only considered: “Due to the importance of their work our members in Dublin Fire Brigade only contemplate industrial action in the most acute of situations.”

“However, the refusal of senior management in Dublin City Council to adequately resource their work so that they can provide the necessary emergency cover for the residents of Dublin is such an acute situation.”
