Dublin is safe? ‘Miracle’ saved life of man who was repeatedly stabbed in broad daylight, court hears

A fight in Mullingar, County Westmeath, progressed to the point that a parent was repeatedly stabbed in broad daylight; a court has heard that a “miracle” spared his life, reports Breaking News.

Fifteen occurrences in the last five weeks have resulted from an ongoing conflict; they include rounds fired at a residence, the finding of a firearm and ammunition, criminal damage, threats of death, assaults, and stabbings.

Five males were taken into custody by Gardaí after they appeared before Patricia Cronin on Wednesday night at a special late session of Mullingar District Court.

Just before midnight, the court, which had been sitting for over three hours to decide on bail petitions, adjourned, reports Breaking News.

Judge Cronin was informed that the town’s disturbance reportedly began on July 4th due to a €50 debt.

A 39-year-old bar employee from Grange Heights, Mullingar, was charged with assaulting a 20-year-old man named Anthony Dinnegan, threatening to kill him or seriously hurt him, and producing a kitchen knife with a black handle as a weapon during a fight on 2 August at Austin Friar Street in the town.

Anthony Dinnegan reportedly sustained knife wounds to his lung, intestine, and liver in court.

Additionally, Mr Nevin Jr. was accused of driving without a licence or insurance on 7 August 2024, at the Cloncollig Roundabout in Tullamore, County Offaly, while operating a stolen Mercedes, reports Breaking News.

Additionally, the father of four was charged with making threats against Lucy Dinnegan and her 20-year-old son Oliver at their Greenpark residence with the intent to murder or seriously hurt them.

Michael Nevin Sr., 61, of Dalton Park, Mullingar, was charged with uttering threats to murder Oliver Dinnegan and his brother Johnnie, 19, on July 4th, and with being unlawfully transported in the same vehicle in Tullamore on August 7, reports Breaking News.

They were denied bail and told the judge they would face more charges.

Investigator Garda After presenting the court with CCTV evidence, Adrian Reilly stated that the stabbing occurred “in broad daylight,” right after 5 p.m., when Mr. Dinnegan and his spouse exited their Austin Friar Street house.

It was claimed that someone had threatened “to kill you and burn you out” before. A group pursued the pair as they fled from the scene after two automobiles pulled into the convoy, reports Breaking News.
