Dublin man (44) hit wife with suitcase in ‘vicious attack’ on family holiday, court hears

A lady said in court that her husband’s “vicious attack” on her face, which left a scar, serves as a “constant reminder” of the attack on their small children. In August 2020, a 44-yr-old Dublin man—who cannot be identified for legal reasons—pleaded guilty to assault causing injury, reports The Mirror.

The woman was left scarred when the man struck her in the face with a suitcase while the couple was on vacation with their three little children, according to testimony presented today at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The man claimed to the gardaí that she was hit “100% by accident” and that he was about to overturn the luggage to empty it, reports The Mirror.

On the day of the trial, he entered a guilty plea after putting out a suggestion to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who granted his plea on the grounds of carelessness.

The lady said she “should have been safe” because she was on a family vacation when she read her victim impact statement. She talked about how their kids were unhappy over seeing the occurrence. The mother expressed her embarrassment and horror at the children witnessing their father’s “vicious attack” on their mother. She expressed concern about how it will affect them in the long run, reports The Mirror.

She said that because the man was “in a rage,” she was unable to get medical help right away and that she instead wanted to get herself and the kids away. The woman informed the judge that she had a scar that was apparent and that she applies a lot of makeup to hide her scar from prying eyes. The scar serves as a “continuous reminder,” according to her, reports The Mirror.

The couple had a difficult relationship before to this incident, according to the court, because they worked, raised three young children, and owned a small business together.

The family proceeded to a hotel in the south of the nation, and a local garda informed the prosecutor Derek Cooney BL that the couple had a number of arguments the previous evening, reports The Mirror.
