Dublin neighbourhood declared one of the “world’s coolest places”

Smithfield has been named one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the world for its “no-frills, post-industrial charm,” reports RTE.

Only Medellin, Colombia’s laurel on Time Out magazine’s annual list where thousands of city dwellers choose the best places for fun, food, culture and community, topped the North Side.

Now in its sixth year, the publication collected over 12,000 votes and interviewed countless local figures to select the ’40 coolest neighbourhoods in the world’ for 2023, reports RTE.

According to Global Media Group, Smithfield was named to the list for its activism, legacy and exciting new initiatives.

When creating and ranking the final list, the team said it took into account factors such as community and social enterprises, access to open and green spaces and vibrant streets.

Representing the Irish listing, journalist Kate Demolder wrote: “Smithfield represents the Dublin that refuses to disappear. This Dublin 7 neighbourhood is a space where tradition and activism meet, where long-standing stalwarts co-exist alongside exciting new ventures,” reports RTE.
