Dublin rape trial collapses after woman refused to be allowed give evidence via video link – all four men released




The trial of four men accused of various sexual offenses against a woman almost five years ago in her home ended in failure in the Central Criminal Court after all charges against the men were dropped, reports RTE.

They are alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted her at her home between December 8 and 9, 2018, all with addresses in Dublin.

Reporting restrictions apply to the identity of all study participants.

The first defendant, 25, pleaded not guilty to verbal rape and sexual assault.

The second defendant, 25, pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault.

The third defendant, 23, pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one of verbal rape and one of sexual assault.

The fourth defendant, 24, pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and sexual assault, reports RTE.

Today, Mr Justice Keane spoke directly to the jury and said, “You have been here for three weeks, and unfortunately, the trial did not come to a natural conclusion”, reports RTE.
