Dunnes Stores has alerted customers about a widely sold snack that could be unsafe for certain individuals to consume, reports The Mirror.
The food safety authority has reported that the product in question contains undeclared allergens, creating a possible health hazard for some shoppers, reports The Mirror.
A spokesperson said: “Specific batches of Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous contains milk and egg which is not declared on the ingredients list on the affected batches. This may make the implicated batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant to milk or egg. Therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batches,” reports The Mirror.
The product involved is Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous, carrying a best before date of ‘30/01/26’.
Shoppers with an allergy or intolerance to milk are urged to avoid consuming the item and to return it to any Dunnes Stores location for a full refund, reports The Mirror.
A milk allergy may lead to reactions such as hives, stomach upset, vomiting, and alterations in bowel movements.
The affected item is Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous with a best before date of ‘30/01/26’, reports The Mirror.
This announcement follows a separate urgent recall of a popular €27 alcoholic spirit available at Dunnes Stores due to concerns it might contain glass fragments.
Last month, the FSAI released a “do not drink” advisory for particular batches of Disaronno Originale 500 Years in its special limited edition bottles, reports The Mirror.
The action was prompted by worries that tiny pieces of glass could be present within the bottles, reports The Mirror.
Disaronno, promoted as ‘The World’s Favourite Italian Liqueur’, remains a staple in numerous Irish households, particularly around the holiday period, reports The Mirror.
It is sold broadly in Irish supermarkets and off-licences, including at Tesco where it retails for €27, and at Dunnes Stores where the current price is €25.
A Dunnes Stores spokesperson recommended that customers refrain from drinking the product and return it to any branch for a complete refund, with no receipt required.
They said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required,” reports The Mirror.
