A number of warnings have been issued to Irish consumers this week after several products sold in shops, supermarkets and online were recalled due to safety concerns, reports The Mirror.
Each week, product safety officers from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) carry out inspections of items sold in Ireland to make sure they comply with safety regulations, reports The Mirror.
These checks can occur without notice and span a wide variety of goods, including toys, electrical devices and gas appliances.
When products fail to reach the required safety standards, CCPC officers act under their legal powers to ensure they are taken off shelves to safeguard consumers and prevent further risks, reports The Mirror.
This week, the CCPC revealed that multiple popular items bought online by Irish customers have been recalled due to safety fears, including chargers and children’s toys. A full list of recalled items is provided below.
Several chargers sold on Shein have been withdrawn from sale because of the potential risk of electric shock, fire and injury, reports The Mirror.
The CCPC confirmed on Tuesday that online retailer Shein has issued a recall affecting eight different chargers sold by third-party sellers on the platform to Irish customers.
According to the consumer watchdog, these chargers pose a risk of electric shock, fire and injury. They feature poor insulation, no thermal protection, improper earthing and missing or incorrect ratings. Product details for those affected are listed below, reports The Mirror.
The CCPC has urged anyone who bought one of these items to “please stop use immediately and discard the product”.
Shein has contacted all impacted customers directly through email and in-app notifications, reports The Mirror.
If you wish to seek a refund from Shein or have questions or concerns about the recalled product, you can reach Shein customer services by emailing [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
Additional product safety information notices were also issued this week by the CCPC regarding several children’s toys sold on the Temu marketplace, reports The Mirror.
These notices concern a range of toy products that have raised both choking and chemical safety concerns.
The first affected item is the Cat Paw Squishy toy sold by KRAIDAY on Temu, with the CCPC identifying a chemical risk due to potential exposure to restricted phthalates above legal limits. This exposure could impact children’s health by harming their reproductive system, reports The Mirror.
The model number is JY100. The bar code is 7144531495. The batch number is 24100112. The product identifier is 17592741866678. Around 103 units of this product are affected in the Republic of Ireland.
Separately, a safety concern has been found with a Musical Rattle Toy sold by Musical Dreamer on Temu. This notice relates to a choking hazard because the toy contains small parts that may detach, posing a risk if a young child places them in their mouth, reports The Mirror.
The brand is Unknown. The model type/number is W0007 – green. The batch number is 20240330. Approximately 74 units are affected in the Republic of Ireland.
Another choking risk has also been identified in a Plush Toy White Duck sold by Claires on the Temu platform, reports The Mirror.
