Dunnes Stores has issued an urgent recall of a popular ready meal due to concerns that it may pose a serious health threat to certain consumers, reports The Mirror.

Customers who have purchased the impacted product are being urged to stop consuming it immediately and return it to any Dunnes location for a complete refund—no proof of purchase is needed.

The recall applies to a particular batch of Dunnes Stores Gluten Free Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli 250g, which retails at €3.25 and has a use-by date of 13.09.25, reports The Mirror.

Despite being marketed as gluten free, tests revealed that this batch does in fact contain gluten, which can be hazardous to individuals with allergies or gluten intolerance.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) made the recall announcement today and cautioned anyone with a gluten allergy or intolerance not to consume the affected product, reports The Mirror.

A spokesperson said: “Gluten was detected in the above batch of Dunnes Stores gluten free Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli. The product is labelled as gluten free and cereals containing gluten are not declared on the list of ingredients. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of gluten and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch. The affected batch is being recalled by Dunnes Stores,” reports The Mirror.

Dunnes Stores has issued an apology for the matter and is asking customers not to eat the affected ravioli.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required,” reports The Mirror.

Customers with questions or concerns can reach Dunnes Stores at 0818300066 or 01 902 0309.

Gluten is a naturally present protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and similar grains. It gives elasticity to dough and is commonly found in foods such as pasta, baked items, and breakfast cereals, reports The Mirror.

While it is safe for most individuals, gluten can cause serious or uncomfortable reactions in people with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance.

Although gluten intolerance is not the same as coeliac disease or a wheat allergy, it can still result in unpleasant symptoms, including:

Abdominal pain
Anemia
Anxiety
Bloating or gas
Brain fog, or trouble concentrating
Depression
Diarrhea or constipation
Fatigue
Headache
Joint pain
Nausea and vomiting
Skin rash
