Dunnes Stores’ head office will today receive an oversized Christmas card containing a message requesting better and improved working conditions for staff.

A group of workers will personally deliver the missive, which has been signed by a significant portion of staff members, later today.

Among other requests, staff are asking for secure hours and fairer pay.

Also today, the Mandate trade union will release the results of a worker survey.

The results indicate that:

– 98% of workers want more stable hours;

– 85% state that insecurity over hours and rostering is routinely used as a method of control

– 88% say that respect and dignity at the workplace are lacking

– 98% say they want the company to respect their right to trade Union representation

Assistant general secretary for Mandate Gerry Light said management has been refusing to engage with staff on the ongoing dispute.
