The leader of the DUP party Arlene Foster has confirmed that she will not be in attendance when Pope Francis visits Dublin later this month.
Ms Foster who was asked on behalf of the Irish Government has declined the invitation as she will be spending time with her family.
In announcement on behalf of Ms Foster, the DUP said although Ms Foster appreciates the invitation she must regretfully decline as she will be away with her family.
The statement also stated that Ms Foster fully recognises the significance of the event to Catholics on both sides of the border.
