A 36 year-old man has had €500,000 in cash seized from his bag in Dublin Airport today. The sizable sum of money had been concealed in the man’s hand luggage. The Irish national was attempting to board a flight to Brussels.
Revenue officers were granted a three-month detention order by Judge John Coughlan in the Criminal Courts of Justice on Friday in order to carry out further investigations.
It is understood the cash, in large denominations, was discovered in the man’s hand luggage as part of an intelligence-led operation.
It is the largest seizure of cash by Revenue to date this year. No arrests have yet been made.
