At least 62 people are feared dead after a horrific incident in Mecca’s Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia. A crane was blown over in strong winds, crashing through the roof to fall on the people praying below.
At least a further 154 people have been injured in the incident. Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence Authority confirmed the details of the accident on Twitter.
Graphic images of the accident quickly spread across the internet. Photos showed bloodied bodies and the destroyed section of the mosque.
Pilgrims from around the world have been converging on the city and the mosque for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which takes place this month.
