Efforts continue today to refloat the gigantic Ever Given cargo ship, with authorities reportedly considering offloading containers to lighten the ship’s load.
The Ever Given ran aground on Tuesday last amidst high winds and a sandstorm. The ship ended up wedged across the Suez Canal, completely blocking it to traffic.
Though the ship did slightly shift position on Saturday, it has not yet been freed. The next option is to begin offloading containers and hope that the ship begins to move at high tide today once some weight has been removed. This operation is far more complex than it appears, as Egypt does not have cranes big enough to offload the containers, something that has to be done with great precision to prevent the ship from listing.
