Egyptian security forces have scored a major victory against the Islamic State branch that has plagued the Sinai Peninsula for several years, killing 15 Jihadis and capturing a large quantity of weapons and explosives.
Those who were killed, are believed to having belonged to Islamist group’s command in the country.
I.S loyalists have carried out numerous terrorist attacks in the popular tourist destination since 2015, including smuggling a bomb onto a Russian plane returning tourists to St Petersburg from the peninsula resort of Sham Al Sheik which detonated shortly after taking off killing all 224 people on board.
Egyptian leader, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, has pledged to take a strong stance against I.S and other radical Islamist groups in the country since he seized power from the Muslim Brotherhood and overthrew then President Mohamed Morsi in a military backed coup.
