An elderly couple have spoken about the disappointment they felt over a holiday spent in a hotel that they said “wasn’t fit for humans”.

According to the Irish Mirror, Glenys and Graham Launders paid €650 for a five-day break but had serious issues with the hotel where they stayed.  According to 75-year-old Glenys, there was a “dirty smell” in the room when they entered.  She said that the pillows were stained and there was a “filthy” toaster.

She said that even before they reached the room, she and her husband had difficulties getting there.  80-year-old Graham is disabled and, while there were two flights of stairs, only one had a chair-lift.  Glenys said that she cried when she told the receptionist about the holiday and explained about the dirty toaster and cleaning facilities.  They were told that the hotel would sort them out with a refund when they had left.

According to the couple, they were planning a big family holiday and booked the hotel because the reviews were so good.  But they said that the “holiday was spoiled”, and their request for a refund was ultimately refused.

Commenting on the situation, the hotel chain said that they were disappointed to hear about the couple’s experience and would be refunding them while taking steps to ensure that no-one else has a bad experience.
