Gardai appeal for witnesses following death of a man in his 50s as he is hit in apparent hit-and-run in County Cavan

A man has died in an apparent hit-and-run incident in County Cavan.

According to RTE, the body of the man was found on the N3 near Billis Bridge.  It is reported that he was in his 50s and an examination of the road led to the conclusion that he was knocked down by a vehicle that left the scene.

Medics who attended the scene did their best to save the man but couldn’t save him and he was pronounced dead before his body was moved to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital.  The road was reopened after a technical examination had been carried out.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses and have said that anyone with information could come forward to Cavan Garda Station.  In particular, they highlighted the fact that people may know of a vehicle that has unexplained damaged in the area of the incident.
