Gardaí in Co Cork have arrested a man aged in his 30s after an elderly man was assaulted in Macroom, on Thursday morning.
It is understood the man aged in his 70s was then to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries after he was assaulted in a car park in Sleaveen East, shortly after 12am on Thursday morning.
Gardaí say a man aged in his 30s was arrested at the scene and was taken to Bandon Garda Station.
They are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed to come forward and contact them at Macroom Garda Station on (026) 20590.
