It has been revealed in the past hour that Fine Gael TD Alan Shatter has lost his Dáil seat in Dublin Rathdown after Green Party candidate Catherine Martin took a surprise win this evening.
Ms Martin GP jumped ahead of Mr Shatter on the sixth count, finishing just shy of a quota with 9,421. However she won her seat after no other candidates were left to be eliminated. Ms Martin’s historic usurping of Mr Shatter comes after Independent Alliance TD Shane Ross was the first person in the country to be elected after topping the poll in Dublin Rathdown. Mr Ross was elected on the second count with 10,411 votes, exceeding the quota of 10,275.
Meanwhile Fine Gael took the second seat however through young candidate Josepha Madigan.
