The Labour Party has seemingly followed Fine Gael’s lead and have announced its plans to increase the national minimum wage of €9.15 to €11.30 per hour, over the next five years.

The party made the announcement at its manifesto conference in Dublin recently, in the address the party say they will work extremely hard to make sure that the Government itself and that all public sector workers and state bodies will become living wage employers.

Speaking at the recent conference, party Minister Ged Nash said: “Under the Lansdowne Road Agreement we are unwinding the emergency public sector pay cuts, focusing on the lowest-paid public servants first,” Minister Ged Nash said.“We will make the living wage a pay floor across the public sector.

The party also claimed that they would provide 50,000 apprenticeship places and 100,000 free part-time education places during their next term in office.

Labour’s decision to increase the minimum wage comes in the wake of their current coalition partners Fine Gael’s recent announcement stating that they also plan to introduce a new minimum wage of €11.30 per hour, along with the promise of introducing 10,000 further public sector jobs over the next five years.
